The charismatic Hawaiian had an amazing rookie year in 2005 where he claimed a top 10 ratings finish and rookie of the year status. He followed suit in 2006 with a runner up placing at the Billabong Pro Tahiti where his prolific tube riding ability saw him score some of the best barrels of the year. That year however, was not as consistent as he would have liked and some of his results certainly did not match his ability and enthusiasm.

Following his fellow countrymen (the Irons Brothers) into the heat of the battle in 2007, Patacchia's potential at this level of competition was boundless, and his 23rd ranking at year's end for '07 shows how intensely focused he can be when the "job's on." Out of the water he takes a lighthearted and fun approach to life, but watch in awe as Patacchia takes charge this year, particularly when large hollow tube rides are on the horizon.
