Bio

There isn't a surfer out there, past or present, whose sheer dominance is even close to that of Kelly Slater. Since cutting his teeth with old school veterans Tom Carroll, Martin Potter, Derek Ho and a host of others too numerous to list, the prodigious Slater walked away with his first ASP World Title in 1992 and quickly led surfing into the twenty-first century. He conquered the '90s and almost effortlessly placed six ASP world title trophies on his mantle (See Career for stats). After taking a brief sabbatical from touring (1999-2001), he dropped back into competition to face off against the new guard of competitors like Andy Irons, Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson. Proving he hadn't lost his touch, Slater stole crowns No. 7 and 8 in 2005 and 2006. After watching Australian Mick Fanning take the ASP World Title in 2007, an unstoppable Slater bitzed the start of the 2008 season, winning 5 out of the first 7 events and claiming ASP World Title No. 9 in Spain.

There's always a media frenzy surrounding Slater, focusing on everything from the celebrities he dates to rumors of how long he'll stay on tour. Mystery shrouds his every move, but it's no secret that he's the best surfer of all time, like the Michael Jordan of basketball or the Tiger Woods of golf. His charity work is abundant for organizations such as Life Rolls On, SurfAid, and the Space Coast Early Intervention Center. Whether on the ASP World Tour as a competitor or traipsing the world in search of the perfect wave, Slater will continue to be a strong presence in the world of surfing.
